Winch-Out & Recovery, Cable Out

What This Job Involves

So you know what to tell us when you ring.

Winching is the one job where a price genuinely can't be guessed from a distance. Two cars in the same ditch can be a five-minute pull and a two-hour problem depending on the angle, the ground and whether there's room to set up. Upstate clay makes its own rules — it grips a wheel like glue after rain and lets go all at once when it dries. Tell us how far off it went, what it's sitting in, and whether a wrecker can get close, and we can give you a real number.

What Moves The Price

Four things decide it. Tell us these and we can quote you on the phone.

  • Distance How Far It Goes
  • Vehicle What You Drive
  • Position Where It Sits
  • Difficulty What It Takes

We don't post a price list because a vehicle rolled out of a parking space and one dragged up a clay bank are not the same job. What you get instead is the actual number for your actual job, on the call, before a wrecker leaves the yard. Free to ask, no obligation.

Straight Answers

What people ask us most about winch-out service.

What does a winch-out cost?

More than a straight haul and it varies more, because the work is never quite the same twice. What decides it is how far off the road it went, what it's sitting in and whether we can get close enough to work safely. Describe those and we'll quote it.

Can you get my car out of a ditch?

Usually. What matters is the angle it went in at, whether it's still upright and what the ground is like underneath. Tell us those three things when you ring.

My car is buried in mud — is that different?

Yes. Clay round here holds hard after rain. What we need to know is how deep the wheels are and whether the underside is resting on the ground, because a vehicle sitting on its belly is a different pull entirely.

Will winching damage my vehicle?

Done properly, no. Done in a hurry from a bad angle, it can. That's why we ask questions before we come out — the setup is most of the job and the pull itself should be the dull part.

Do you do this on private land?

Yes — driveways, fields, farm tracks and private lanes. Make sure you've got the owner's permission if it isn't your land, and mention gates, soft ground or anything a wrecker won't fit through.
